Problem 35
Q

For the transmission of electric power from power plant to home, as depicted in Fig. 21–25, where the electric power sent by the plant is 100 kW, about how far away could the house be from the power plant before power loss is 50%? Assume the wires have a resistance per unit length of 5×105  Ω/m5 \times 10^{-5} \; \Omega/\textrm{m}.

The transmission of electric power from power plants to homes makes use of transformers at various stages.

I worked this out and got it wrong using these steps. the resistor (R) was given as 4.0 * 10^-5 ohms/m. The Power was given to be 100 kW. All the other numbers were the same. My answer for the distance was 3.6 * 10^9 m

Hi there, I calculated the distance for your problem and got 7.2*10^9 m. Was that the right answer?
