why is the magnetic field lines pointing to the right out of the North Pole? Don't the lines of from north to south?

Hi jhessica, thank you for the question. You're quite right that magnetic field lines go from North to South, but keep in mind that this is true outside of the magnet when lines are travelling through space. If I'm guessing correctly, were you expecting the field lines to go from N to S within the magnet? The field lines are meant to emanate from the North end of the magnet, pointing away from North, and travel in a loop around the magnet and re-enter the magnet on the South end.
Hope this hellps,
Shaun
